Tennis Queensland is thrilled to announce that funding has been secured for significant upgrades to the Queensland Tennis Centre (QTC), ensuring the venue is ready to host Olympic and Paralympic tennis events at the Brisbane 2032 Games.

A Game-Changing Investment in Queensland Sport

The funding announcement marks a major step forward in securing a lasting legacy for tennis in Queensland. With the state set to welcome the world in 2032, the upgraded QTC will play a key role in the delivery of world-class tennis events.

Premier David Crisafulli and Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie revealed the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games venues and infrastructure plan today, following a 100-day review. This plan highlights the government’s commitment to upgrading essential sporting facilities across Queensland, with the QTC identified as a crucial venue for the Games.

Strengthening Queensland’s Sporting Future

Tennis Queensland CEO Cameron Pearson welcomed the funding, stressing its importance for both the QTC and the broader tennis community.

“The Queensland Tennis Centre is one of Australia’s most iconic tennis venues, vital to the development and promotion of tennis at national and international levels,” Pearson said.

“While the QTC met event and community needs when it opened in 2009, essential upgrades are required to ensure it is fit for purpose for the Olympic and Paralympic Games. This funding is critical in making that happen.”

Pearson also highlighted the significance of government support for tennis and Queensland’s standing as a global sporting destination.

“This investment not only underscores the government’s confidence in tennis but also cements Queensland’s reputation as a hub for sports excellence,” he added.

“This funding will allow us to enhance our facilities, support athlete and coach development, and continue growing the sport at all levels.”

Tennis Australia’s Support for the Project

Tennis Australia CEO Craig Tiley also welcomed the announcement, emphasising its broader impact.

“The Queensland Tennis Centre is integral to the success of the Brisbane 2032 Games, and we are delighted to be hosting Olympic and Paralympic tennis in what will be a world-class venue,” Tiley said.

“This project will bring significant economic benefits to Queensland and inspire future generations of tennis players and fans, ensuring a lasting legacy for the sport.”

What the Upgrades Include

Currently home to the Brisbane International, the National Tennis Academy, and elite international tournaments, the Queensland Tennis Centre is a key asset in Australia’s sporting landscape. The funding will support:

  • Construction of a new 3,000-seat roofed arena

  • Addition of 12 new International Tennis Federation (ITF) specification courts to meet Olympic and Paralympic requirements

  • Upgraded player facilities to accommodate a large number of athletes, support personnel, and fans

“These upgrades will not only enhance the Brisbane International but also attract more major events to Queensland,” Pearson said.

A Lasting Legacy for Queensland Tennis

With the Brisbane 2032 Games on the horizon, these upgrades will leave a lasting impact on Queensland’s tennis community. The improvements to the QTC will ensure that the state continues to host world-class tennis events while fostering the next generation of Australian tennis stars.

“We are grateful to all involved in the review process and look forward to making the most of this incredible opportunity for our athletes, coaches, and fans,” Pearson concluded. “This investment is not just for 2032 but for the future of Queensland tennis.”
