Jack Grealish found the back of the net as Manchester City eased to a 2-0 win over a struggling Leicester City, deepening the Foxes’ relegation fears.

The England international scored his first Premier League goal in 16 months, while Omar Marmoush also struck in a dominant performance at the Etihad Stadium.

It was yet another miserable night for Ruud van Nistelrooy’s Leicester side, who slumped to their seventh straight loss—without scoring a single goal. Any hopes of a turnaround were dashed almost immediately when Grealish opened the scoring just two minutes in.

Marmoush doubled the lead before the half-hour mark, and from there, City cruised to victory, reclaiming their spot in the Premier League’s top four and keeping their Champions League hopes alive.

City Fans Protest Ticket Prices

Despite the win, the mood in the stands was notable. Hundreds of City fans staged a protest over ticket prices, choosing to stay away for the first nine minutes of the match. Those who joined late missed a flying start, as Grealish slotted home from a Savinho assist after Jeremy Doku won possession high up the pitch.

Watching from the stands was Pep Guardiola, serving a touchline ban. The City boss has been hesitant to trust Grealish this season, but his decision to give the winger a rare league start was immediately justified.

As for Leicester, their hopes of a competitive contest evaporated almost instantly. The Foxes barely laid a glove on the reigning champions, who didn’t even need to be at their best to dominate proceedings. With Erling Haaland sidelined, City still looked dangerous, threatening the Leicester goal on multiple occasions.

Leicester’s Defensive Woes Continue

City’s second goal came in the 29th minute after a costly error from Leicester goalkeeper Mads Hermansen. A routine high ball from Ruben Dias was fumbled, landing straight at the feet of Marmoush, who smashed home off the crossbar.

The home side could have had more before the break, with Savinho blasting over and forcing a sharp save from Hermansen. Marmoush also had another effort blocked as City piled on the pressure.

Leicester captain Jamie Vardy was a bystander for most of the first half and was subbed off at the break.

The second half followed the same script—City in control, Leicester struggling to make an impact. Grealish had a penalty appeal waved away early on, while Savinho also thought he had a case when he went down under pressure from Luke Thomas, but the referee wasn’t interested.

Business as Usual for City

With the result all but secured, City played out the remainder of the match in cruise control. The biggest cheer of the night came when Oscar Bobb returned from injury, making his first appearance since breaking his leg in August.

Meanwhile, Leicester fans headed for the exits early, with their side now sitting 12 points adrift of safety.

For City, the win was another step toward securing Champions League football. For Leicester, the drop to the Championship is looking more inevitable with every passing week.
